New Azure FeaturesMicrosoft have released 10 new features to all UK Azure Regions. The majority of these are designed to further Azures fantastic cybersecurity keeping its client’s data safe. Microsoft have highlighted the features they are most excited for, see below.
Firstly, Azure Bastion, a feature which limits threats by letting the client connect to virtual machines without using public IP addresses. This reduces your visibility online making it harder for malware and hackers to find traces of your activity and therefore making it harder to find your virtual machine.
Next is the new Azure Confidential Computing. Another feature to keep your data safe. When data is being stored in one of Azures Data Centres around the UK, it is often encrypted to stop people from tracking and stealing it. With Confidential Computing data is encrypted and secured while you are using it. This keeps your data secure all the time. ‘Banks could use Confidential Computing to combine transaction data to detect fraud and money laundering, and hospitals could combine patient records for analysis to improve the diagnosis of diseases.’ – Microsoft.
Azure Private link is a new feature that allows the client to connect to Microsoft Cloud through no public internet access. This gives yet another line of security and for some users will allow them to comply with regulations they may need to follow. “Microsoft continues to invest in our UK Azure regions to meet the growing needs of our customers. Azure is helping organisations, both large and small, adapt to a new way of working, and our cloud experts continue to help them at this challenging time.” – Michael Wignall, Azure Business Lead at Microsoft UK.
The other additional features also being added are…
Virtual Network NAT – simplifies outbound-only internet connectivity for virtual networks. Time Series Insights – Analytical data tool. Premium Plan Linux – performance enhancements for Linux. Azure loT Central – A platform that can automatically solve problems within your system using AI. Consumption Plan Linux – a compute power allocation program. Azure Bot Service – a bot development service that assists you and other users to connect to popular channels. Azure App Configuration – manage all your application settings in one place. Microsoft also announced that Azure is now available in 60 Azure regions spanning over 140 countries. They also recently announced new Azure region expansions in Poland and Italy costing over $2.5 Billion.

Microsoft HoloLens Not Only Assisting, But Protecting Doctors on the Front Line of CoronavirusThe Microsoft HoloLens is a mixed reality headset which displays information into the users visual perception of the real world. Since its release in 2016 it has helped innovate engineering, In fact it took inspiration from science fiction films such as ‘Iron Man’, in which similar fictional devices are used to map out live plans during the construction of technology. Imperial Collage Healthcare NHS trust are now using the HoloLens to tackle Coronavirus on the front line.
The device was designed with protective goggles for use in construction, which naturally protects doctors from contracting the virus through their eyes. The HoloLens has multiple HD cameras which relay information and video to other members of staff. This has allowed them to reduce the amount of time staff are in high risk areas by a staggering 83%. Rather than multiple consultants entering a patient’s room, now only one has to with the HoloLens. See the video below to view exactly how the HoloLens is being used and what the doctors see when using the device.
