SharePoint – Embed a Link to a Document onto a SharePoint Page

Embed a Link to a Document onto a SharePoint Page

Sometimes it is useful to embed a view of a document on your page directly to get the greatest exposure to the document.

Embedding Word and PowerPoint documents with SharePoint

  1. Upload your document into a document library
  2. Click on the Ellipsis to pull up the preview of the document.
  3. Click on the menu in the preview pane
  4. Click on Embed Information and copy the code.

Embed Information

This is the Window that is shown after choosing ‘Embed Information’

Embedded Information

Below is the code you are copying. This will be copied to your clipboard or if you prefer you can save it in Note Pad.

<iframe src=’{83802374-e0aa-4043-8788-70efbc5ca4bb}&action=embedview’ width=’379px’ height=’252px’ frameborder=’0′>

This is an embedded <a target=’_blank’ href=’’>Microsoft Office</a> document, powered by <a target=’_blank’ href=’’>Office Online</a>.

This code can also be copied into any web-page.

Placing the code in SharePoint

The easiest way to paste this code into SharePoint is with the Content Editor web part.

  1. Navigate to the page on which you want to place the embedded document
  2. Click on the gear and select Edit Page
  3. Put your cursor on the page where you want the document to be visible and select Web Part under the Insert tab
  4. Choose the Script Editor web part under Media and Content
  5. Click on “Edit Snippet” and then choose embed code under the Insert tab.
  6. Paste your embedding code and click ok.
Placing the code in SharePoint

Your embedded code snippet window should look like this with the code in the Box and the document that the link refers to showing just below.

Save and check in the Page where you will see this link now showing on your page.

From here you can View, Edit the document, Download and Print
