Unilever is a British-Dutch transnational consumer goods company co-headquartered in London, United Kingdom, and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Its products include food and beverages, cleaning agents, beauty products, and personal care products. It is Europe’s seventh most valuable company.
The main brief was to match the design we were given by a third-party company, MK Brand, in the initial stage and to explore the limitations and restrictions Modern SharePoint would put on the design. We agreed to use the Communication Site (as opposed to Team site – which serves better for collaboration) as it allows full width sections necessary as per the design. Also requested was the ability to filter news to show only the stories relevant to the search.
Home Care Academy is a collaborative forum: a kind of Wikipedia for Home Care.
Its purpose is to share real-life knowledge and ideas with everyone involved, and help people who use Unilever’s products in their homes regularly to have the best possible experience. The HCA site offers multiple courses on a few topics, as well as contains personal experiences (in form of blog entries) of several Unilever’s employees. It also includes relevant news and bits of trivia on Unilever’s products.
Some features weren’t achievable using OOTB (out of the box) SharePoint, such as gallery tile arrangement, popup on image click etc. For these, we have used Unilever’s custom SharePoint components that they have available. To match the specific colour request, we created a custom theme colour scheme. We’ve also adjusted the footer to the image requirement.
We’ve enabled filtering for News pages as well so that Blog would only show blog entries, News would show only relevant news etc.
The custom webparts normally not available with Modern SP are the following:
– The greetings webpart on the Homepage
– Knowledge Centre tiles
– Hall of Fame gallery
