Introduction

J.P. Morgan is a leading global financial services institution operating at significant scale across international markets. To support consistent internal training across a large and distributed workforce, the firm identified the need for a structured, video-based internal learning platform that could operate securely within its existing SharePoint on-premises environment.

Challenges

J.P. Morgan required a centralised training solution to support internal education and knowledge sharing across a large, distributed user base. Existing training materials were fragmented and difficult to navigate, with SharePoint being used primarily as a document repository rather than a structured learning environment.

The bank needed a platform that could present training content in a clear, course-like structure, with strong emphasis on video delivery and consistent user experience. This had to be achieved without introducing third-party learning platforms or external hosting solutions, due to strict security, compliance, and governance requirements.

A key constraint was the requirement to build the solution on SharePoint Classic, as the solution would require custom scripting and page layouts, and design that is not possible with SharePoint Modern. Classic was also necessary to ensure compatibility with J.P. Morgan’s existing enterprise environment and internal standards.

In short, J.P. Morgan required a modern, intuitive training experience delivered through a legacy platform, without compromising on security, compliance, or maintainability.

This close partnership ensured the solution aligned with both strategic objectives and day-to-day training needs.

Dolphin IT Solutions designed and implemented a fully bespoke training platform built on SharePoint Classic, transforming it from a static content store into a structured learning environment with dynamic elements.

The solution was architected using SharePoint Classic publishing features, custom master pages, and tailored page layouts to create a consistent, branded experience in line with J.P. Morgan standards. Rather than relying on flat document libraries, training content was managed in lists and modelled as structured pages representing courses and modules, allowing users to progress through material in a logical and intuitive way.

Video content was embedded directly into these structured pages, supported by contextual information and supplementary materials presented alongside the media. Custom metadata and taxonomy were introduced to drive navigation, filtering, and content discovery, enabling the same training assets to be reused across multiple learning paths without duplication.

Where native SharePoint functionality fell short, Dolphin implemented carefully controlled client-side enhancements to improve usability and performance, while remaining fully compliant with internal security and change-management policies. All customisations respected SharePoint’s permission model, ensuring access could be tightly governed by role or location.

The result was a scalable, enterprise-ready training platform that delivered a modern learning experience despite the constraints of SharePoint Classic. The solution improved engagement with training content, simplified content management for internal teams, and demonstrated how deep platform expertise can unlock significant value from constrained enterprise technologies.
