Hurricane Energy

Bespoke SharePoint Team Site

Hurricane Energy is a UK based oil exploration and production company, working predominantly off the UK Continental Shelf.

Hurricane Energy approached Dolphin IT Solutions for a bespoke SharePoint Team Site, to aid their team in working remotely. The site needed to follow company branding and be simple to navigate. In addition, the site needed to rehouse all of their internal documents, which were being hosted on an internal file server.

An additional requirement of the intranet was to roll up the company's news feed on the landing page, and present information using features not available directly out of the box in SharePoint.

The Solution

Following the client's requirements, Dolphin IT Solutions' SharePoint developers created a bespoke site collection for each department. Furthermore, the use of SharePoint's Hub Navigation functionality enabled seamless navigation between each site, helping the business to be more connected. Each SharePoint site followed a custom theme which was specially created to match Hurricane Energy’s branding.

The homepage contains web parts including a custom news feed which rolls up press releases form Hurricane Energy’s website, this was created using SharePoint Framework. Underneath this was a SharePoint News Feed web part, which rolled up internal corporate news stories and company updates, which are published within the Hub Site across the site collections.

Another requirement the client had was for Hurricane Energy’s HR site to have a wiki designed to highlight the business' perks. However, Wikis are no longer a feature of SharePoint Modern, as the focus has shifted to creating dynamic content with the standard site templates. To work around this limitation our expert developers created a content page for each employee benefit, and then added a custom flag to the HR site's Pages library to denote whether each page is an employee benefit page, or a normal page. Our team then coded a bespoke web part to roll up each benefit as interactive links, allowing users to seamlessly browse to each benefit they click on.

Later on within the project, Dolphin IT Solutions, a full project lifecycle delivery consultancy, created How-To videos for staff to view. We presented the company with short three-minute videos explaining how to perform common actions within SharePoint, such as how to use the powerful Microsoft Search. We have also provided ongoing support to Hurricane Energy and helped them to expand their SharePoint platform as and where required.
